As Mr. Wildey's widow was resident in
England I brought the matter before my Executive Council on
the 27th. November, 1900, when it was advised that a copy of
your Despatch No. 170 of the 27th. August, 1897, should be
sent to the Senior Unofficial Member of the Legislative
Council in order that he might, if he thought fit, move a
resolution approving of the adoption of the scheme therein
proposed. I enclose for your information a copy of the cor-
respondence addressed by the Colonial Secretary to the Senior
Unofficial Member, from which you will observe that no reply
was ever received.

In the meantime your Despatch No. 53 of the
24th. February, 1902, was received, and under the instructions
therein contained Sir William Gascoigne introduced into
Legislative Council a Bill to amend the law relating to the
Widows and Orphans' Fension Fund, which passed the Legislative
Council and received the assent of the Officer Administering
the Goverment as Ordinance No. 12 of 1902 on June 10th. last.

Owing to these several questions having
arisen subsequently to the date of Mr. Wildey's death the
consideration of the pension due to his widow was at first
postponed and then overlooked, until the receipt of the
Crown Agents Telegram of the 24th. November last. The matter
was then immediately dealt with and settled. I much regret
the inconvenience caused to Mrs. Wildey and to the Crown
Agents by the unfortunate delay.
I have the honour to be, Sir,
Your most obedient
Humble servant,
Governor, &c,.
